Dianna & Phil – Wedding

Dianna & Phil – Wedding

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of photographing Dianna & Phil‘s wedding at the Yellow House of Willowdale in Kennett Square.  The weather could not have been more perfect for their big day, and the whole event ran seamlessly thanks to the crew from Angela Malicki Events.  There was so much love, joy and passion between these two that there was no denying that we all had reason to celebrate their union.  As I listened to them make their vows and watched them during their first dance, I was struck by the reminder that I would do all of that all over again with Chris.  I have high hopes that Dianna & Phil will feel the same when they attend a wedding seven years from now.  :-)  Happy viewing friends!   Read more

Ellen’s First Birthday Party

Ellen’s First Birthday Party

Do I say it every month?  Pretty sure I do, so maybe I should say it again… I can’t believe that my sweet baby is nearly a year old!!  Her official birthday is May 15, so I have a little time to come to grips with this.  But, not much.  I will be in Paris on her birthday, and she will be in Charlotte, North Carolina.  I am sure I will cry.  I am counting on it.  For all three of Claire’s birthdays, I was sure I wouldn’t be emotional, and then, the flood gates opened at the exact time of her birth or when I was putting her to bed or just checking in on her before I went to bed… whatever, I cried.  My girls are growing, and I often wish I could freeze time.  I love them both to pieces.  Ellen has brought more joy to my life than I ever could’ve imagined.  I wasn’t confident that I could love another child as much as I love Claire, and then… I did!  Anyway, I am going to try to put together a post of her first year portraits all in one bundle, BUT… I am waiting until we return to take her one year portraits.  So, be patient with me.  But, for now… here are some images I captured of Ellen’s Very Hungry Caterpillar party we had for her this past weekend.  Happy viewing, friends! Thank you for filling out my survey!!

May 7, 2012 By Rae in News Comments Off Tags: Hungry Caterpillar Party

Friends, thank you all for filling out my survey last week.  It was extremely helpful and encouraging to hear from all of you that did!  I have no idea who won the Amazon gift card since Survey Monkey handled it all, but congrats to the one that did!  I really appreciate you all taking the time to fill it out.  It is always good for us to hear from the outside, especially in an anonymous form so that we hear the truth and have the chance to reflect.  Several of you commented on the functionality of the new site.  I think you may find if you play around with the tags on the left and the search areas at the bottom and top, that may help.  Regardless, I have passed all of those comments on to my husband who made this new site happen!

It is funny how some response completely negated others.  Nearly 90% of you went out of your way to post a comment to tell me you love how you can relate to me and love my written voice (phew!), and yet one person said that he/she thinks I come off as know-it-all.  Though that ratio makes sense to me because I can’t follow a blog where I can’t relate to the writer or feel like their ego is inflated nor can I follow a photographer on Pinterest that ONLY posts their photography and nothing else.  Thanks for the encouragement and the suggestions; it was so helpful.  Like I said, I only had one person with pure criticism (it isn’t constructive if it attacks and doesn’t encourage positive change), and I have my doubts that person actually enjoys my blog at all, which is what it is… I don’t expect everyone to love it!

ANYWAY, pretty much the general tone was EXTREMELY encouraging to me to post more often (of course, this comes at a time when I am about to take a 2ish week trip and won’t have access to my computer).  Most of you love the personal posts, which I didn’t expect as many requests as I got!  In fact more of you wanted personal posts and Mommy Mondays than photography tips (phew! i would run out, friends!); though 70% of you like seeing my work best (thank God, since I have no intentions of being a pro blogger).  I do have plans to step it up, but within reason… real work has to be a priority, and it wasn’t in April, which (in the end) greatly overwhelmed me, as I felt I had failed my clients in turning things around as quickly as I usually do.

So, thanks again!

And just because SEVERAL of you said there needs to be pics in every post… straight out of camera shot as a preview for tomorrow!  Ellen’s first birthday party… (tear)

Please, take my survey!

I haven’t done a survey in years, so please, please, pretty please, take the time to do this quick 9 question survey if you regularly follow my blog. If you do it, you will be entered to win a $50 gift card to Amazon.com!  You don’t even have to answer ALL nine of them- just the starred ones are good if you are short on time (though obviously, we’d love for you to answer all of them).  It is anonymous, so I want you to be honest.  But, no meanies allowed!  ;-)  I welcome constructive criticism, but note the adjective before “criticism.”  Ha!  Anyhow, I really appreciate it, especially since I failed you by not posting this past Friday.  After my post on Thursday, I thought you might understand, though.  Thanks so much, friends!

Thoughts on Exhaustion

Apr 26, 2012 By Rae in Personal Comments Off Tags: thoughts

Friends, I hit a wall last night.  As I reverted back to “old ways” of post processing (ie. not culling the entire shoot before choosing blog images, just because I was short on time), I realized I was downright exhausted.  Too bad I stayed up until 11:30pm to get yesterday’s post up on time… and too bad Claire woke up at 2am needing her fan on and then again at 6am WIDE AWAKE for the day.  Also… too bad that this has kinda been my life for weeks now: staying up too late working on blog posts, crashing without any real “down time,” and then getting up too early and/or at least one time in the night for random reasons (teething, Claire being hot, etc.).   To put it lightly, I am exhausted.
