Establishing her business in 2004, Rae Barnes set out to serve her clients with timeless images that will tell their unique story.  That desire to document a family's place in history doesn't stop when the shutter closes or Lightroom has finished exporting.  Your family portraits deserve to be more than pixels on a screen, and Rae will help you transform your memories to heirlooms your family will enjoy for many, many years.

Rae Barnes

Photographer since 1997. Business owner since 2004. Wife since 2005. Mom since 2009. Mom of 4 since 2015. Photography teacher and business mentor since 2016.

Life is crazy and messy, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  Becoming a mom was one of the hardest things I've done, next to creating a business from the ground up straight out of college.  But, both of these have shaped who I am to my core.

Being a mom has made me a more patient photographer and more intentional business owner.  Being a photographer has made me appreciate how quickly my kids change and grow, and being a business owner makes me cherish the gift it is to spend time with my kids.  I can't imagine life without all of these elements balancing me!

I was born and raised in North Carolina.  I fell in love with my husband in Colorado.  I was a newlywed in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.  And, I settled into life as a mom in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Life is a crazy ride.  I'm thankful I get to do what I do for a living.

You are busy.  You are working hard to provide for your family, and time is a luxury that you wish you had more of...

I get it.  I'm with you.

My goal is for your portrait experience to be effortless (other than wrangling that toddler into his clothes).  I will help you plan your outfits.  We will make the kids think we are just playing for an hour or so, while I just happen to be taking gorgeous portraits of them.

And, then, I will come back to your home to show you what I captured of your family.  I will show you all of the various heirloom album options, and I will measure your walls and show you what sizes of wall art are appropriate in your space.

We will work together to create the perfect pieces for your home and your lifestyle.  And, then, we will personally deliver and even install your custom wall art for you!

Let us freeze time for you!

Invest in Your Family Portraits

Due to the custom nature of our work, the amount you can expect to spend could vary greatly. Typical family portrait sessions have a $1000 minimum commission. Most families choose to invest well beyond the minimum for their custom wall portraits, gift prints and heirloom albums.

About Me

Back in 2004, I  was graduating college in South Carolina, completely convinced that I would be working for an advertising agency, getting my Masters in Fine Art Photography and still single for at least the next 3 years.  Within a little over one year, I was married to my best friend and photographing weddings in the middle of the Adirondacks.  I’ve learned to never doubt the possibilities life can give you.

I photographed well over 100 weddings before our third child was born in the beginning of 2013.  Tears filled my eyes at a wedding I photographed in late 2012 in Philadelphia because I knew it could be my last.  I truly loved photographing weddings.  I loved the raw emotions, the fast pace and the sheer beauty and importance of the day.

But, I see and experience all of these things in my time with each family I photograph now.  My passion is capturing pure, loving relationships within a family.  Our children are only little for such a short time.  Sure, the days can sometimes drag, but the years somehow fly by.  And, I believe in the importance of freezing time on any given day with your child.  As a mom, I realize that there aren’t days as big as your wedding day to capture, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t just as important to capture for posterity.  It is my pleasure and joy to freeze this precious time forever in a photograph.

Five things you should know about me:

  1. I married the love of my life on September 17, 2005.  He has taught me so much, and I would not be who I am (photographer included) without him!
  2. I have four little ones: Claire born 2009, Ellen born 2011, Benjamin born 2013 and Emily born in 2015.  They are growing up way too fast, which reminds me daily of why I do what I do.
  3. I am a morning person, but I do not function without coffee and protein first thing.
  4. I’m a perfectionist with a messy house.  It may not make sense, but I keep waiting for the perfect time to clean… and, that time doesn’t really exist with kids, right?
  5. I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina.  I fell in love with my husband in the mountains of Colorado.  My business really took off in the Adirondack mountains of New York.  Even though we live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I crave being in the mountains.
