Eight years ago, I was hired by this super fun and lovely couple that lived in North Carolina and was to be married in Lake Placid, NY. They wanted me to photograph their wedding in Placid. Once they knew I had connections in North Carolina, they also wanted me to come down to NC for their engagement portraits. I lived near Lake Placid at the time, but I was born and raised in North Carolina. Little did I know that 8 years later, I would be asked to fly down to North Carolina to photograph this couple with their two children. It was such an honor and joy to be in their home!
I’ve photographed this family twice since their wedding. In a day when there are photographers everywhere you look, this honor is not lost on me. Both of the portraits were timed for when they were making the long drive from Durham to Lake Placid. (I happen to be just about halfway!). The first time, post-wedding, was when their oldest was a tiny baby. The second time was last summer when their son was at just the PERFECT age for baby portraits. We had a gloriously perfect sunrise session. But this year, I knew I might be traveling to see family down in NC, so we timed their session perfectly for their lifestyle session.
This Family Lifestyle Photographer from Philadelphia Travels As Well!
Yes, this Philadelphia photographer travels now. Having four babies in six years made it hard for a bit there, but I’m back to loving travel! Lifestyle family sessions are the best for travels because the weather doesn’t matter as much, so we don’t have to worry about rescheduling. I am there to be a fly on the wall as much as I can. My desire is to document those seemingly mundane moments of the day.
Of course, I have to admit… as a new parent, I felt like all of my portraits of my baby had to be so perfect. As I had more babies, it got harder, if not impossible, to make things appear so perfect. Now, my most favorite portraits of my kids are not planned. Those real and spontaneous portraits help me remember exactly who my kids were at that age, and they help me remember how I felt during that stage of life. As I look back at our albums, I am taken back in time. I long to do that for my clients more and more.
Please, contact me to secure your lifestyle family photography session. The winter is a wonderful time to do this, but we can do this any time of year! We will work together to map out some ideas of how to maximize our time together. This will make your album feel like a story of your mornings or evenings during this stage of your life.
And, now… onto this lovely family! Happy viewing, friends!
